CanPowerSkate is an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. CanPowerSkate is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams. The focus is on building  skating skills.

PrePower skate 

Prerequisites 

This program is for skaters who wish to build on strengthening their hockey power-skating abilities. Skaters entering the program should already be able to skate forwards, walk backwards or have completed CanSkate Stage 5/6. Recommended for ages 5-8. Please note that Professional Coaches may request or suggest a program change for Skill Development.

What's included

Focus is on correcting and enhancing skating posture, form and technique, both forward and backward, with the addition of speed and power. More advanced skating skills are taught, including pivot turns and cross-overs.

Fees

$280 /10-week Fall Friday sessions + once per year cost of Admin /Skate Canada Fee* $90

* The Admin/Skate Canada Fee is made up of a $65 compulsory Skate Canada fee for skaters registering in Skate Canada sanctioned clubs. The remaining $25 Admin fee helps to cover the administrative and operational costs of Acton Skating Club.  Skate Canada, the national governing body responsible for the development and administration of skating in Canada, is the largest skating association in the world. With skating programs for athletes of all ages, offered at clubs and skating schools across the country. Skate Canada is an association dedicated to providing every Canadian the opportunity to learn life skills while experiencing the power, strength and creativity of one of Canada's premier sports.

Powerskate   2025/2026 - Powerskate for Hockey 

Prerequisites - Recommended for youth ages 9+

Should have passed Level 1 of the CanPower Program or mastered fast forward crossovers, forward 180° pivots, backward snowplow stops, and reverse pivot turns. Recommended for youth ages 9+. Please note that Professional Coaches may request or suggest a program change for Skill Development.

What's included

Power and speed-focused drills program in a fast-paced environment. Emphasis is placed on skill development, crossovers, speed and agility with continual emphasis on the use of edges. Further skill advancement is taught (i.e. reverse pivot turns etc.) in this program. This program uses the full ice for greater speed and distance than our PrePower program.
